A man arrested for killing of two people in Torit

Authorities in Torit County say they arrested a man who shot and killed two young men on Sunday night in Omoruo village of Bur Payam.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Monday Torit county commissioner Fermo Peter Isara said Oker Among and Odongi Maya were shot by a drunk man.

“The man was happy and drunk and he wanted to go out of the cattle camp. But the people who were with him asked him not to go because it was already night and were worried that he would injure someone with the gun he was carrying. He insisted. Two of them followed him, he started shooting and killing them,” he explained.

Peter said the young men came to herd their cattle in Omorwo Boma in Bur payam before the incident happened on Sunday night.

He added that the main challenge is that most civilians in the county are armed but revealed that the government is planning to conduct a disarmament exercise.

“The government is planning to disarm civilians because civilians don’t know how to use these guns like if one is drunk he will just kill a brother. The influence of beer is also too much,” he lamented.

He urged the youth to reduce their consumption of alcohol that alters their behavior.
