9 suspects detained for incitement of violence in Eastern Lakes State

Security authorities in South Sudan’s Eastern Lakes State have arrested 9 suspects accused of inciting communal violence between Akwei and Apuk communities of Awerial County.

Security authorities in South Sudan’s Eastern Lakes State have arrested 9 suspects accused of inciting communal violence between Akwei and Apuk communities of Awerial County.

Eastern Lakes State information minister Abraham Ajak told Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday that the suspects were arrested on Tuesday and will be charged with incitement, murder and creating insecurity in the area.

Ajak said that all the suspects have been transported from Awerial to Yirol town for further investigation.

He called on the local communities to end hostilities amongst them and embrace peaceful resolution of conflict.  

Last week, 2 people were killed and 10 others injured in clashes between Akwei and Apuk communities of Awerial County during a wrestling match.
