At least nine people have been killed in inter-clan clashes in South Sudan’s Warrap State, a local government official said.

The fighting, the latest in a series of attacks between rival communities, occurred in Tonj South County on Sunday.

The Secretary-General of the defunct Tonj State, Gabriel Awan, told Radio Tamazuj on Monday that about 21 people were also injured when members of the Apuk and Yar communities fought against Thony community.

According to the local official, the conflict erupted between the rival communities over the ownership of Majakot area.

Awan pointed out that the area has a serious shortage of police personnel, reducing their ability to control the security situation.
