An attack by gunmen killed at least 9 civilians, including women and children, in a village in Kwajina County of Wau State on Sunday, a local official said on Monday.
Kwajina County Commissioner Barjuok Uchu told Radio Tamazuj that the attack on the area of Akuoya resulted in the killing of 9 people, including women and children.
“The incident occurred in a displaced camp called Akuoyo. Displaced families were collected by the government to stay in Akuoya area after armed pastoralists attacked their villages from 6 to 10 March,” he said.
He pointed out that six civilians, including children were injured in the incident. “The injured people have been sent to Wau Hospital for treatment,” he said.
The county commissioner said pastoralists from neighboring Tonj state were behind the fresh attack.
Uchu accused pastoralists from Tonj state of violating the Marial Bai agreement of December 2016. The agreement regulates the relationship between pastoralists and farmers inTonj, Gogrial and Wau States.
Officials in Tonj state could not immediately be reached for comment.
