At least nine people were killed and 15 others injured in fresh fighting between the Wat and Panyar sections in Lakes State on Thursday, a local official said.
The fighting occurred in Alangtit area, located in Cueibet County.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Thursday, Cueibet County Executive Director Zachariah Mamer Yuol Thokgor blamed the clashes on cattle raids, revenge killings and a long running feud.
He said authorities in the defunct Gok State have sent security forces to stop the fighting in the area."The Wat section lost seven people, nine were wounded while the Panyar section lost two people and six were wounded,” said Mamer.
However, the local official said the situation is calm and stable.
According to reports, the routine of intercommunal clashes in many parts of the country prevails due to lack of an efficient justice system.
