9 dead in inter-clan fighting in Lakes State

At least nine people were killed and 12 others were wounded in inter-clan clashes between the Panyon and Dhiei sections of Dinka tribe in South Sudan’s Lakes State on Saturday, a local official said.

Jok Ayom, acting information minister told Radio Tamazuj that the clashes erupted on Saturday morning when the Panyon clan accused Dhiei of killing one person from their side.

He further said at least five people were killed and seven others were wounded from Dhiei clan while four people were killed and five others were wounded from Panyon clan.

The state official pointed out that the clashes stopped after security forces were sent to control the clashes in Rumbek East County. The spokesman attributed the problem to an unresolved dispute between the two clans.
