85 students graduated from Torit Health Science Institute in South Sudan’s Torit State on Thursday.
The occasion was attended by several government officials and health partners.
Dr Elijo Omoro Tahir, the director general at the ministry of health in Torit State, called on the government and its partners to create employment opportunities for the graduates.
“My appeal goes to the government and our partners. I would like you to create an enabling environment so that we are able to employ these graduates,” he said.
Meanwhile, the minister of health in Kapoeta state, Charles Lokonoi urged health partners to also support the opening of a similar health institute in Kapoeta state.
“There is a message that I would like to pass to UNFPA, Save the Children and CORDAID, what you have been doing here should also be transferred to Kapoeta state so that the two sisterly states produce the same products for equal opportunities,” he said.
On his part, Torit State governor Tobiolo Alberio Oromo urged the people of Torit to focus their energies on bettering the lives of future generation through education. He described education as the tool that will liberate the country from the numerous problems it has been facing in the past.
“It is now time for us as a nation to make a better living on this earth through education. We must send our children to school, we must support our teachers both primary and secondary teachers,” he said.
Amoko Pitus, one of the graduates, thanked faith-based groups, NGOs and Torit Hospital for their support.
Pitus however said the practical knowledge of health science for students is confined to the books and classrooms because of lack of laboratories in the institute.
The institute was established in August 2015.
