Eight government officials in Sudan’s West Kordofan state are under investigation including the commissioner of al-Muglad locality Ibrahim Babiker over selling asphalt for paving the road linking al-Muglad and al-Meiram, according to sources from the area.
A committee to investigate the eight officials was formed headed by the Deputy Governor Sumaiya Jaber, with membership of the state director of police, director of national security and several state ministers.
The committee has started investigating the officials since 2 June who allegedly sold the asphalt to an investor in White Nile State with 1,200 million pounds in late April.
The Al Muglad commissioner is accused of having formed a committee composed of eight members to sell the asphalt for paving the road between al-Muglad and al-Meiram after it was put in the open when the work on the road was stopped two years ago.
Meanwhile, Hamdi Tabaiq, an activist from al Muglad questioned the investigation underway, saying the members of the committee are all from the ruling party.
He called on the government to bring to justice the commissioner and his committee and restore the asphalt to pave the road between al-Muglad and al-Meiram.
