Police authorities in Yambio, Gbudue State have rearrested 8 inmates who had escaped from Yambio Prison in December.

According to the prison authorities, the 8 are part of a group of 24 inmates who escaped the prison facilities last month.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday, the Director of Yambio Prison Gabriel Bull Deng said the ring leader was killed during the escape and 15 more inmates remain at large.

He called on those still at large to surrender to the authorities for their own safety.

“The rest fear that the government will do something to them, nothing will be done to you.  If you are around just come back. The one who is on the wrong is the dead one. All of those who are around here just come back for your own safety, some of you who have killed others are insecure because those you have offended may want to revenge,” he said.

Bull added that the state authorities have put in place measures to ensure such incidents do not reoccur.
