About eight people were injured after a man riding a motorcycle hurled a hand grenade at a local restaurant on Tombura Road in Juba City yesterday evening.

According to eyewitnesses, a man riding a numberless motorbike, came and parked on the road near the restaurant and threw a hand grenade towards the restaurant before speeding off.

Gen. Daniel Justin, told Radio Tamazuj this morning, “Yes, it happened yesterday at around 8 pm. There is a restaurant that is facing the main road on Tombura Street. Someone came riding a motorcycle and hurled a grenade. The grenade fell on a table, if it had fallen on the ground it would have hurt many more people. It fell on the table, exploded and injured about eight people whom we took to the Juba Military Hospital.”

“We have now formally opened a case and we are carrying out investigations. No one was killed in the attack and we have not yet made any arrests but investigations are ongoing,” Justin added.

The police spokesman said they are on standby and ready to contain crime this Christmas season.

“We will deploy our personnel in the suburbs. We also appeal to the citizens to cooperate with law enforcement and be security conscious. The situation at the moment is calm and there are no reports of any major crime,” Justin said.
