The director of the incidents department at Al-Fashir South Hospital revealed on Sunday that the hospital received 8 dead bodies and about 65 injuries as a result of mutual artillery shelling between the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) as well as the aerial bombardment carried out by the Sudanese Air Force.
Fawzi Ismail Haroun, the medical director of the hospital, told Radio Tamazuj that the Southern Hospital in Al-Fasher was not affected by the fighting.
“The injuries that arrived at the hospital from the events in the western countryside of Al-Fasher and inside the city and there were 65 injuries and the number of civilian deaths reached 8 cases,” he said.
He revealed that the hospital performed successful surgical operations for some cases, indicating that three more cases will undergo surgery and that among the injured are women and children with varying injuries.
Ismail also noted that the hospital lacks many necessities and thanked the health ministry, the emergency management team, and Doctors Without Borders (MSF) for covering all the financial costs of the recent surgical operations.
“Despite these conditions, things are somewhat progressing well,” he stated.
On his part, Abdulnasser Mohammed Ibrahim, a member of the Emergency Room in Al-Fasher, reported that the last 24 hours have been fairly calm.
“The day before yesterday (Sunday) clashes occurred and the Sudanese Air Force carried out airstrikes while RSF used artillery shelling to retaliate, resulting in many civilian casualties,” he said.
Mohammed pointed out that the clashes led to increased displacement and that all the residents in the eastern and northern areas of Al-Fasher moved south of the city.
He also revealed that four children were hit by shrapnel resulting in one death while the others were taken to the hospital.
