At least eight people have died of cholera in eastern Sudan and hundreds of infected cases were confirmed in several states, according to a report released by the independent Central Committee of Sudanese Doctors.

In a statement seen by Radio Tamazuj, the committee said that at least eight people died of cholera at Gabait Hospital in eastern Sudan and that over 121 cases of cholera mostly children were received at Ahmed Gasim Hospital in Khartoum and Alban Gadid Hospital.

The report urged the relevant authorities to deal with such cases carefully and announce the results with full transparency to save lives.

The Federal Ministry of Health has not yet issued any statement on the matter.
