About 750 people who fled their houses following a “house to house” massacre by government troops at Kalipapa village in Kwerijik Bungu Payam are living in dire humanitarian conditions, a religious leader said.
In October, SPLA soldiers attacked Kalipapa village located about 38 miles west of the capital Juba after a failed military operation against rebels who had abducted travellers along the Yei-Juba road.
Frazer Yugu, Assistant Bishop of the Episcopal Church, told Radio Tamazuj yesterday that those who fled their homes after the attack are currently living under trees.
He pointed out that the conflict-affected people are facing shortages of food and other basic services, amid absence of relief agencies in the area.
Yugu called on the government and humanitarian organizations to provide aid assistance to the needy people as soon as possible.
