Skills for Nuba Mountains Vocational Training Centre in Sudan’s Nuba Mountains Region on Tuesday awarded certificates to graduates at a colorful function attended by government officials and over 700 people.
The 70 graduates acquired computer skills and learned how to make soap.
Khalid Damery who represented the SPLM-N appointed governor of Sudan’s Nuba Mountains region, Saeed Kajo Kumi, at the function, appreciated the institute for imparting skills to the youth which he said would make them productive.
“Today we are graduating the people who were trained on how to make soap and others who learned computer skills but I want the director of Skill for Nuba Mountains to also consider training and give a chance to people living with disability because they are important,” Damery said.
Skills for Nuba Mountains Vocational Training Centre Director, Alazim Suleiman, told the graduates that the skills they acquired are specifically tailored for the young people of Nuba Mountains to apply in life.
“It is now up to you to use it or misuse the skills we have given you because in other countries you alone talk with technology. We are here to train the young generation to know how to work with the technology,” he stated. “If you have skills, you should go ahead and engage in developmental activities to change the region for the better.”
Suleiman appreciated members of the institution’s board of directors for their active participation in meetings to better the institution.
Meanwhile, a graduate who only identified herself as Mary and represented the soap-making graduates, told the dignitaries present that they would make soap for the region as long as raw materials were available.
“We are ready to make soap willing to go to any of the counties in the region,” she pledged.
