At least seven people were killed and four others injured in separate cattle raids in parts of Jonglei State since Friday last week, a local official said.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Monday, Jwac Makuei, a lawmaker representing Ajuong constituency in the state legislative assembly said an armed group attacked cattle keepers in the Paliou area on Sunday.
“We lost 4 people during the raids and 2 others were injured. They took about 1,000 cows, but some were retrieved. The attackers are from Boma State because 3 were killed during the incident,” he said.
The MP pointed out that local residents were living in fear of eminent attacks.
He appealed to the authorities in Jonglei and neighbouring Boma State to end the cattle raids.
Separately, the commissioner of Duk Panyang County commissioner, John Chatim, said two people were injured and 320 cows raided when armed men attacked Patuet area on Friday last week.
