7 killed, 10 injured in Duk-Twic East violence

At least seven people were killed and 10 others were injured after suspected armed assailants from Twic East County attacked an island in Duk County.

At least seven people were killed and 10 others were injured after suspected armed assailants from Twic East County attacked an island in Duk County on Wednesday night, a local official said.

Duk County Commissioner John Chatim confirmed to Radio Tamazuj the incident, and called for restraint. He said that an investigation was underway to uncover the motives of the attack and to bring those responsible to justice.

“The people from Twic East attacked civilians in a small area called Lang. They killed seven people and injured 10 others,” Chatim said.

“The injured were taken to hospital, while the dead were buried in Lang.”

Meanwhile, Twic East County Commissioner Jacob Chol acknowledged the incident, stating that while the reasons for it were still unclear, the authorities were committed to a thorough investigation.

“I am aware of the incident. I do not know the reason because I was not among the attackers. I tell the entire Twic and Duk communities to remain calm despite their bitterness,” Chol said.

He emphasized the importance of allowing the law to take its course.

The incident has raised tensions in the region, especially considering the unresolved death of Deng Dau, a renowned wrestler, also known as Deng-Moradong, who was killed under mysterious circumstances involving suspected armed individuals from Duk County.
