The governor of the proposed Gogrial state said a new court of seven judges has been approved by South Sudan’s Chief Justice Chan Reec Madut to mediate disputes between the Aguok and Apuk communities.

The Kuacjok Special Court will be officially inaugurated on Monday. In January this year, two brothers were killed in Gogrial East County and over ten people including local chiefs were arrested for investigations.

Governor Abraham Gum Makuac said Saturday at Kuacjok’s Freedom Square that the special court will have a two month mandate to carry out its work.

He said the seven judges are traditional judges from other states so that they can give fair trials without favouritism. He also announced a postponement of the planned peace conference to between Apuk and Aguok communities citing political reasons until sometime in mid-May as arrangements are finalized.

“In regard to peace and reconciliation conference which was schedule for this month, I want to announced that it is postponed until the political arrangements are complete and now the government has settled in Juba so as to enable some of participants in Juba to attend the conference,” he said.
