The Northern Bahr el Ghazal State traffic police have said seven people were severely wounded in a freak traffic accident when two motorcycles collided in Aweil town on Thursday afternoon.
Major Yai Ater Malith, the acting traffic police director in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, told Radio Tamazuj that they have arrested two suspects who are in critical condition. He revealed that the two bikes which collided were carrying seven passengers between them.
“The arrested suspects are Kuot Garang and Akol Aru Kuan and their situation is critical and they are currently in the hospital. One motorcycle was coming from the western part and the other was from the southern part and they collided at the checkpoint,” Maj. Ater said.
Dr. Dut Pioth Akot of Aweil Civil Hospital confirmed that they admitted seven patients, four of whom sustained major injuries, while the other three are in the Out Patient Department (OPD).
“Two motorcycles collided and they were carrying 3 and 4 passengers each. All seven passengers were injured and four have more critical wounds and we have one who sustained traumatic brain injury with a skull fracture,’’ Dr. Pioth said.
Cecilia Angelo Deng, who is attending to her injured family members, said three of her brothers were involved in the accident.
“What happened yesterday (Thursday) was that my three brothers Akol, Akot, and Diing were involved in an accident with four other people near Akook Noon’s roundabout. They are currently in critical condition,” Deng said. “According to the information we have, the four passengers who came from Sika Hadid side collided with our brothers who were riding from Maper Akot to Aweil town.”
