At least two people have disappeared and 6 others injured when fighting erupted between the host community and South Sudanese refugees residing at Ayilo-One Settlement Camp in Adjumani District of Uganda on Wednesday.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Thursday, the chairperson for Ayilo-One settlement camp Bior Ngong fought after the host Madi community accused refugees from the camp of killing one of their daughters, after the body was found near the camp this week.

Ngong confirmed that two South Sudanese men Debek Atem and Bol Garang aged 17 and 38 respectively went missing since the attack.

“Until now two people are missing, and I cannot confirm whether they are killed because they were captured during the clashes and their dead bodies were not recovered yet. But the locals have denied holding them,” he said.

The camp official pointed out that at least 46 houses of refugees were burnt to ashes and more than 6,000 refugees have been displaced to their community centres as tension remains high.

He also said that camp leaders and host community authorities are engaged in talks to resolve the situation peacefully.

Radio Tamazuj was not able to reach the host community to comment on the matter.
