Six people including a police officer were reported killed and four others wounded in revenge killings in Rumbek Centre of Lakes State over the weekend.
“There was an unresolved feud between the Ajang and Rup clans. So on Saturday the Ajang clan accused the Rup of involvement in the killing of one person from their side,” said Jok Ayom, Minister of Local Government and Law Enforcement.
The law enforcement official told Radio Tamazuj that the Ajang clan attacked a family from the Rup clan and killed a secondary school student.
He further said fighting resumed when a group from the Ajang clan attacked a police station on Sunday. The official pointed out that the incident resulted in the killing of a police officer and three others, besides the wounding of four civilians including a woman.
The wounded were taken to Rumbek North Hospital for treatment, according to the minister. However, Ayom claimed that the security situation returned to normal yesterday after the local authorities intervened.
Ayom confirmed that the government is working to resolve differences between the two clans.
