At least six people were killed and 17 others wounded in South Sudan’s Tonj State after Yar and Tonj communities clashed over the ownership of Tonj area on Tuesday, a youth leader said.
Kuol Ater, who is youth leader in Wanalel County, told Radio Tamazuj that fighting started when the two communities each claimed to be the rightful owner of Tonj.
Tonj State governor Akec Tong Aleu confirmed the clashes and said three chiefs have been arrested in connection with the incident. “That is why we decided to send the army to contain the fight,” he said.
