Refugees from the Blue Nile state living in Doro camp, Maban county, Upper Nile state, have complained of a “deteriorating education situation”. According to a source, approximately 6,000 pupils do not have access to schooling.
The supervisor of Doro refugee camp, Cila Musa, told Radio Tamazuj that Unicef which is operating in the area in collaboration with the South Sudanese Education Office has built four schools. However, these four schools do not cater for the increasing number of children in the camp.
Parents in the camp called on the authorities concerned to construct more schools. They also have appealed to organisations and UN agencies for more school buildings and improvement of the educational system.
They are also complaining of a shortage of teachers and the absence of teacher training programmes. The parents called on the authorities concerned to construct more schools, especially secondary schools: “We need more primary schools and the refugee camp badly needs a secondary school for the primary school leavers.”
