Nearly 55,000 South Sudanese refugees have arrived in troubled East Darfur this year, according to the U.N.

Since January, there have been more than 90,000 South Sudanese who have fled to Sudan, mostly due to a combination of conflict and hunger.

Northern Bhar el Ghazal has seen immense humanitarian suffering because of high food prices and widespread hunger.

Over 3,700 refugees were recently relocated from the Khor Omer camp to a new camp in Kario. Relations between Sudan and South Sudan have been strained after both were accused of funding opposition groups across each other’s borders.

In some areas like Aweil, South Sudanese said as recently as a month ago that the border was shut down, halting trade between the two.
