An unidentified assailant attacked and killed a 53-year-old man identified as Nguot Gai Liah at his home in Block One, Sector Three of the Bentiu displaced people’s camp in Unity State on Wednesday, the police said.
The vast camp was handed over to the state government in 2020.
John Malieth, the police spokesperson in Unity State, told Radio Tamazju Thursday that the man was killed at 3 a.m. on Wednesday when he got out of his shelter to help himself.
“The incident happened when the deceased came out from his shelter to urinate. When he was going back inside, he was speared to death,” he said. “The joint police forces are working very hard to arrest the person who committed this crime against humanity. When we arrest him, the full force of the law will be brought against him as he committed a crime against the community.”
According to Malieth, this is the second such incident since the deployment of the joint police force in the camp after the UN handed it to the state.
“No one has been arrested since yesterday but we are doing our part to find the murderer,” he stated.
