The Director of Aweil Central Prison Major General Autiak Kuac Kuac has reported that 448 prisoners at Aweil Central Prison plus another 47 and 24 inmates at Malek Alek and Arroyo counties respectively face lack of food after a supplier failed to supply food since last July.

He says the little food donated by World Food Programme last month has finished expressing his concern on what will happen to prisoners.

“Yes the challenges of central prison become worse again because now the hunger increase again. Before three months we have been provided food by WFP,” Kuac stressed.

“We don’t know where the contractor is and today I came to Juba because I was trying to get contractor because all of them (contractors) are here in Juba,” he added.

Kuac also added that the health condition of inmates is worsening due to overcrowding in the prison which was established to accommodate only 150 inmates.

“Their health situation is also deteriorating as the limited medicines brought by ICRC finished,” Kuac said.
