Thieves broke into Wau’s Agricultural Bank in Western Bahr al Ghazal Sunday night and stole 518,774 SSP, deputy mayor Anthony Charles Nberende said Tuesday.
Nberende told Radio Tamazuj that the criminals had drugged the guard and stormed the bank.
“There were two security guards for the bank, but one of them was absent during the incident. So the guard who was present was drugged with chemicals by the thieves,” he said.
The official said the policeman was taken to the Wau Teaching Hospital for treatment.
He pointed out that local authorities opened a case against the anonymous criminals and that a security committee was formed to follow up on the incident.
Nberende also advised security guards to avoid drinking alcohol while on the job, Catholic Radio News reported.
