At least 50 people were killed and 26 others injured in cattle raids in South Sudan’s Boma State, an official said.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday, Boma State minister of local government Natabo Abraham Nyitaak said the ongoing clashes started on Tuesday when armed Murle youth attacked Luwaacodou cattle camp in Jebel Buma county.
“According to the report we received yesterday in the evening. The report indicates that more than 50 people were killed and now in the hospital, there are more than 26 people injured including 13 from the attackers,” he said.
Abraham pointed out that the clashes are ongoing but have moved to a different part of the county as those attacked pursue the attackers.
“Well, as per now the fighting has moved away from Luwaacodou where the guys were attacked. It has moved from the southern part of the Jebel Buma County to the western part. The cattle owners are still after their raided cattle,” he noted.
Abraham said he fears the death toll may rise as the clashes continue; adding that the number of cattle raided is unclear.
The official stated that the state government is meeting to resolve the issue.
