Lightning strikes killed at least seven people in the Nuba Mountains including five people in a single deadly incident on a farm about a week ago, according to local sources.

Muzamil Osman said his sister and two children from his relative were killed in the event plus two workers. The three women and two children were seeking shelter in a hut when the lightning struck.

He explained that his sister had gone with two workers to the farm located between Ajirbago and Jigeba village. After they had lunch the rain started and they ran into the hut in the farm. Two children aged 13 and 6 joined them in the hut who were coming from Ajirbago to visit their grandmother in Jigeba.

“So they all took cover in the same hut as it was raining the lighting struck the house killing five of them,” he said. An old woman also there was knocked unconscious and suffered burns but she survived.

Reportedly, three more people were also killed by lighting strikes in separate incidents early last month.
