At least five people were killed and 15 others wounded in Tonj East County of South Sudan’s Warrap State following revenge attacks over the weekend.
Warrap State information minister William Wol Mayom told Radio Tamazuj on Saturday that the fighting started on Friday following an elopement and a murder in Rupbar village.
“The fighting of Friday occurred in Kolnyang cattle camp between Kuok community and Luach-Abuong section and fighting killed five people and 15 youth sustained wounds from both sides,” he said.
Wol adds, “On the same 18, it has involved small firearms where one person was killed from the section of Wunadel. On the morning of 19, in the same area of Kolnyang, people from Wunadel and Kuok and Abuong the sub-section of Luany-Jang launched revenge attacks.”
The minister said Warrap state authorities have dispatched security forces comprising of police and other state-organized forces to go and contain the situation.
Wol Mayom also mentioned that those wounded have been taken to Marialou Hospital and Thiet town for treatment.
Last year, 47 people were reported killed in the same area over a similar incident.
