At least nine cattle camps with an estimated 2,400 head of cattle were raided in Rioriak Payam of Rubkonta County, Unity State, on Sunday night by armed youths suspected to have come from the Ruweng Administrative Area.
Rubkona County Commissioner Clement Jouy told Radio Tamazuj Tuesday that five local people were injured during the raid and are now receiving treatment. No deaths were reported.
“Cattle were raided from nine kraals in Rioriak Payam on Sunday night. The number of cattle in each kraal varies from between 100 and 250 and we estimate that 2,400 head of cattle were raided by youth from Ruweng,” he said. “Five people from among the cattle owners were injured and were taken to Bentiu Hospital for medical treatment and I wish them a quick recovery.”
Meanwhile, when contacted, James Matiok, the acting minister of information and communication in Ruweng Administrative Area, said he was away in Juba and heard about the cattle raid through social media. He promised to revert after getting official communication from the ground.
“I am going to find out from the ground if the youth from our area went to Rubkona County and raided cattle and get back to you, but I don’t think it is true that there was an attack,” he stated.
