A road ambush in Kolmerek area, Bor North County of South Sudan’s Jonglei State on Tuesday night has left 5 people dead and 4 others injured, a local official said.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday, Kuol Bol, a legislator representing Athoc North Constituency in the state assembly said the incident occurred when an armed group attacked the commercial vehicle en route to Bor town.
“5 women were killed. 4 people injured including the driver who sustained minor injuries and the other three were transferred to Bor Hospital. One of them, a man is undergoing an operation. The other two are admitted, a man and a woman,” he said.
Bol added, “Those passengers were returning to Bor town after attending a marriage ceremony in Duk Payuel County. When they reached Kolmerek area at 10 PM they were ambushed by bandits.”
The parliamentarian who accused bandits from neighboring Boma state for the attack urged both states authorities to intervene to curb violence from escalating.
