At least five civilians were confirmed killed and 25 others wounded on Friday by government bombings with explosive barrels in a camp for internally displaced people in Wau Shilluk area on the west bank of Upper Nile, a local non-governmental organization said.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj yesterday, Philip Lam Nyawela, Executive Director of the Nile Organization for Peace and Development, claimed that a government airplane dropped explosive barrels in a camp for the conflict-displaced people in Wau Shilluk area on Friday around 10:30 pm.
Nyawela pointed out that they have already buried five people killed in the incident, saying there are aslo unconfirmed numbers of dead bodies in the bush.
The executive director added that they also confirmed about 25 others wounded after the bombing by the government airplane, saying the attack also displaced a large number of people.
Nyawela noted that another aircraft bombed the camp on Saturday, causing fear and panic among the conflict-displaced people. He urged the warring parties not to target innocent people.
On Tuesday, the SPLA-IO faction allied to Riek Machar claimed that at least 25 civilians were killed in aerial bombardments carried by the SPLA Air Force in Wau Shilluk area.
On 31 January, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) said it has been forced to suspend humanitarian activities in Wau Shilluk due to violent clashes over the weekend putting thousands at risk.
