Gunmen shot five people on Saturday night on the outskirts of Juba near the UN Protection of Civilians (POC) site 3, seriously wounding four.
A resident of one of the POC sites told Radio Tamazuj today that he saw five people taken to the IMC clinic that serves as the main referral clinic for all the POCs.
“I saw four women and a man brought to the IMC clinic,” he said, adding that one woman was shot in the neck, another in the ankle and another in the back.
The incident happened around 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday and the wounded arrived to the clinic around 8:00 p.m. He said the displaced did not see the perpetrators but suspected them of being government soldiers.
Likewise, the UN Acting Spokesman Joe Contreras said, “Four female IDPs and one male IDP were shot in a market area adjacent to the UNMISS Protection-of-Civilians 3 site near UN House in the early evening of Saturday, 20 June.”
“Four of the wounded IDPs were taken to a clinic in the UNMISS PoC site 1 for medical treatment and are in a serious condition,” he said. “The IDPs have accused SPLA soldiers of firing on them because they were outside the PoC 3 site after the official curfew time of 6 p.m.”
Contreras told Radio Tamazuj that 25 UNMISS peacekeepers were dispatched to the site of the shooting incident but did not find any armed groups in the area. He said UNMISS continues to investigate the incident.
