Police authorities in Aweil town are investigating five people accused of dealing in counterfeit money.

The five were in possession of about 9,000 fake US dollars when they were arrested mid this month in Aweil town.

Addressing the media on last Friday, Aweil State Acting Police Commissioner, Nofel Abdallah, said the five are still in detention after state bank officials verified that the money was counterfeit.

Abdallah added that the five had intended to invest that money within the town.
