More than 5,000 citizens around the Abyei area are experiencing a shortage of food.

There are around 5,000 recent returnees that missed the registration process for food rations administered by local humanitarian organisations, said Bol Deng from Abyei's commissioner's office.

He called for humanitarian organisations to assist those citizens with food aid and others that continue to return to the area.
