The Deputy Attorney General of West Kordofan State, based in El-Nuhoud City, has initiated legal proceedings against 49 civilian political leaders on various charges, including crimes against the state, inciting war, collaborating with the enemy, and undermining the constitutional system.
These charges have led to arrest orders being issued for individuals from diverse backgrounds, including politicians, journalists, senior civil servants, and civil administration officials associated with the Civil Democratic Forces alliance (Tagaddum), a coalition of political parties, civil society, and professional groups calling for an end to the ongoing war.
The Deputy Attorney General has urged the accused to present themselves to the nearest police station. Additionally, the Reserve Forces in Gibiesh Locality have submitted complaints, which have been approved for investigation by the prosecution under case number 1120/2024 at the Al-Nuhoud City Prosecution Office.
Journalist Emad Abdel Hadi, one of the accused, expressed his concerns to Radio Tamazuj, stating, “What is happening is a desperate attempt by those possibly affiliated with the old regime to exploit the judicial authorities for their political agenda, silencing voices against war, corruption, freedom, and democratic justice.”
Emad Abdel Hadi also cautioned against potential unlawful actions by certain public prosecutors. He noted that the accused individuals have collaborated with several lawyers to appeal the complaints to higher authorities.
Lawyer Murad Gibril Ahmed from Gibiesh weighed in on the complaints, highlighting that they target civilian political leaders associated with the December Revolution. He expressed astonishment at the opening of complaints for crimes against the state and civilian politicians, stating, “Such crimes are supposed to be directed at those bearing arms from the warring parties, not civilians. This is nothing more than a futile attempt.”
He described the complaints as vindictive, emphasizing that all the accused are leaders of the December Revolution. Additionally, he mentioned the formation of a comprehensive defense committee for the accused, welcoming lawyers to join.
