At least 45 farmers selected from different locations in Tambura County on Sunday completed a five-day training program on how to prepare land for farming and crop production.
Moses Robert Sambia, the team leader for Star Trust, a local organization, said the purpose of the training was to teach farmers on basic knowledge of agricultural practices.
The farmers, Sambia said, were selected from groups and are expected to train others in the field.
He urged the farmers to implement the knowledge given to them, citing the poor road network as the only challenge they are facing.
Mark Anthony, a beneficiary farmer, said he was happy with the knowledge acquired during the training and vowed to train others.
Fute Angelo, another participant, said he is ready to implement the knowledge he attained right from the day when the training started. He also called on Star Trust organization to supply farmers with tools.
Despite the huge agricultural potential South Sudan possesses, only about 5 percent of the country’s arable land is reportedly cultivated.
