43 citizens wounded in last week’s attack by gunmen in Duk County of Jonglei State have been transported to the capital Juba for treatment, a local official said.
The attack in Duk Padiet town left 38 people dead and 44 injured.
Elijah Manyok, the Executive Director of the county, told Radio Tamazuj on Thursday that authorities, in collaboration with humanitarian organizations, were able to transfer the wounded to Juba and are now receiving treatment at Juba Teaching Hospital.
He said one of those injured in the attack died, bringing the total death toll to 39, and an 11-year-old girl reportedly disappeared.
The local official said the security situation in Duk Padiet town is still tense, and several residents are currently living in the bush for safety reasons.
The attack, blamed on an armed group from the Greater Pibor Administrative Area, came amid reports of ongoing clashes in Pibor’s Gumuruk area between the Murle and their counterparts from Jonglei state.
