The South Sudanese Health Minister confirmed on Thursday a measles outbreak in Malakal, capital of Upper Nile, adding that at least 42 children are infected.
In a press conference, Minister Riek Gai Kok however noted that precautionary measures are in place to control the disease’s outbreak in the country:
“A team has been formed by the Ministry to monitor the health situation in Malakal. They are working in full coordination with the World Health Organization.”
He appealed to parents to vaccinate their children who are under five years old, as they are the most vulnerable to this “highly contagious” disease.
