A 40-year-old man identified as David Martin Dut died by suicide after hanging himself in Wau town of South Sudan’s Western Bahr el Ghazal State on Sunday.
The police in Wau said it is still unclear why the man decided to take his life but they suspect family disputes and alcohol abuse.
Western Bahr el Ghazal police deputy commissioner Major General James Simon said the deceased was a resident of Hai Jebel in Wau town.
“The case reported to us yesterday is that there is somebody called David Martin Dut who committed suicide at Hai Jabel residential area. His suicide is related to family problems but he was also drunk,” he said.
According to Gen. Simon, this is the second suicide case in three months in the same residential area.
“I remember that there was a similar incident in the same area of Hai Jebel. The reason for these suicides is related to intoxication, those involved always commit suicide when they are drunk and he or she is not able to control their lives and that is why they resort to suicide,” he explained.
When contacted, the family of the late declined to speak saying it was early as they are still investigating the circumstances surrounding their son’s death.
In February this year, a 28-year-old policeman Arop Peter Kuol died by suicide after hanging himself on a rope in the same Hai Jebel area in Wau town.
