Authorities in Leer County of South Sudan’s Unity State say they have arrested four suspects linked to a revenge attack that took place in the county on Wednesday, in which one person was killed.
Stephen Taker Riak, Leer county commissioner, speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Thursday said the four suspects were involved in killing a man identified as Nyandok Gatluak to avenge the killing of their family member a long time ago.
“We have arrested four suspects from that family and they are in custody for investigation with security forces. We are working here to make sure such a thing should not happen again in the community,” Taker said.
Unity State information minister, Hon Gabriel Makuei Bol, confirmed the arrests and said the authorities have launched a manhunt for the culprit.
In related news, Gabriel said, 35 cattle were recovered after a cattle raid in Panyijiar county where about 45 cattle were stolen. No one was killed in the raid, he revealed.
He added that some suspected have been arrested over the raid.
“The county authorities under the leadership of the commissioner of Panyijiar county Gabriel Machiek Bol has struggled to apprehend those criminals and the cows and they have caught some criminals and they have collected 38 cows. Only seven of the 45 cows have not been recovered,” he added.
