4 rescued from abductors along Lafon-Mogiri road

A member of the Eastern Equatoria State Legislative Assembly, Visor Likale Olum, has said at least 4 people, including a child, were rescued after suspected Murle attacked and abducted them along the Lafon and Mogiri road on Sunday

Olum, who serves on SPLM-IO ticket, alleged that a group of 20 people was on their way to Juba through Mogiri before abductors sat all of them down, looted their properties and abducted the four, but after the youth in Lafon heard of the incident, they followed the footmarks and rescued the abductees.

The lawmaker claimed there was no clash but the abductees were found in the bushes after escaping.

“One is a lactating mother with a child of less than one year, the boy is approximately 17 years old and the woman is about 57.  My advice to the Pibor Administrative Area is that not every neighbor should an your enemy,” Likale said

The Lafon Central Boma Chief, Augustine Lijuok, confirmed the incident and urged the State Government to save the innocent populations struggling to survive along that road.

“The people who were in Mogiri were the ones who saved these people. All their properties were looted at the junction of Mangala, just 4 minutes’ walk to Mogiri in Bari territory. The victims said those were the Murle and such things are happening every year.

“It is very difficult to even discuss with Murle people over such incidences. It is very hard for us to get solutions but it should have been the State level helping to resolve this,” Lijuok said.

Several attempts to reach Eastern Equatoria State Minister for Local Government Peter Lokeng Lotone on the matter went in vain.
