At least four people who were apprehended on suspicion of killing a motorcyclist have been released after a spiritual leader purportedly identified the real killer in Unity State’s Leer County on Tuesday.
The police chief in the county, Kuony Chan, told Radio Tamazuj Wednesday that five suspects were arrested for killing a motorcyclist identified as Gatluak Chok Mathiang in early June.
“Since January, we have not recorded any report of robbery or murder in and around Leer Town and this is the first case. Robbers attacked a motorcycle rider between Leer Town and the Pulguori area,” he stated.
In a bizarre turn of events however, Chan revealed that the police released four of the suspects on Tuesday after a local spiritual leader ‘identified’ the real killer.
“Five youths who were suspected to have been involved in the killing of a motorcycle rider were arrested for investigation but they refused to talk and give us any information,” he revealed. “We sent them to a spiritual leader on Tuesday who then identified the person who killed the motorcycle rider.”
Chan added: “The four suspected armed youths were released after the spiritual leader identified the killer and we are now left with one suspect in custody.”
He added that the four men were released because they did not participate in the killing according to the spiritual leader.
“The governor will now decide if the suspected killer will be taken to Bentiu or not,” Chan stated.
