Four medical staff at a private clinic in Jonglei State were on Tuesday arrested over the death of a patient, police said.
Family members said 14-year-old Nyanliet Majier Ajak died at African Clinic in Bor town after an injection administered by a nurse.
The state police commissioner, Joseph Mayen Akoon, told Radio Tamazuj on Thursday that an investigation into the girl’s death is ongoing.
“There are four people who were arrested. And also we did not get the detail of what caused the death [of the girl],” Mayen said.
“The child was found to be with malaria. Complications started after an injection with a drug for fever. The person in charge was not a doctor by profession, but a nurse. And he is a Ugandan,” he added.
The police commissioner pointed out that state health ministry officials carried out a post-mortem to establish the cause of death.
He urged the deceased’s relatives to be patient as investigations continue.
Radio Tamazuj was unable to reach the management of African Clinic to comment on the matter.
