At least four people were killed and four others reportedly wounded when government forces and SPLA -IO fighters clashed at Liang village in Maban County in South Sudan’s Eastern Nile State on Thursday.
Among the four people who were killed were two women and two men while at the same time an old age woman and three children were wounded.
Maban County Commissioner Luk Sadallah Deng told Radio Tamazuj yesterday that forces loyal to Riek Machar came and attacked government positions south of Bunj town at around 5:20 am, but the attackers were repulsed.
He pointed out that the incident resulted in the killing of four civilians including two women, besides the wounding of four others including three children. Luk revealed that the wounded people were taken to Bunj Hospital for treatment.
The local official declined to report any government casualties after fighting, saying he was not authorized to comment on the matter. The commissioner claimed that the security situation returned to normal after the SPLA-IO forces withdrew from the area
