4 killed, 1 wounded in separate incidents in Tonj North

Local officials from Tonj North county in South Sudan’s Warrap state, say four people were killed in three separate attacks in three locations between Sunday and Tuesday.

Tonj North communities have been embroiled in intercommunal cattle raiding, killing, and destruction of properties since last year.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday, Secretary for Security Committee for Tonj North county, Agany Lok Agany, disclosed that a motorist was killed at Afour locality while two other people were killed at Achol-Awakou near Warrap town.

"The first day one person was killed between Afour and Agaany. This person was riding a motorbike. The killers have not been arrested, they are at large. Then there was somebody who came from Awan Parek to Achol-Awakou on Monday night and this person was killed at Achol-Awakou. His people heard and came for revenge at Achol-Awakou and killed one person. Yesterday, a person was killed at a place called Malou that is on 26th," he said.

The Executive Director of the defunct Warrap county, Aduot Ayieny, confirmed the killings and said one person was wounded during the revenge attack at Achol-Awakou. He added that security organs are tracing the culprits.

Efforts to reach authorities of defunct Ruel-Bet county which is inhabited by Awan Parek were not successful.

The Awan Parek and Ajak Leer communities located south of Tonj North county’s headquarters in Warrap are fighting Atuok and Noi communities who are to the North East of Warrap town.
