Tonj State newly appointed governor Matthew Mathiang Magotdit says at least four people were killed and a large number of cattle looted last Thursday.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, the state official said an armed group attacked cattle keepers in Lon Mawien area in the state killing four people and making way with about 200 heads of cattle.
Mathiang added that the attackers are suspected to have come from neighboring Gok State.
He urged authorities in the region including Gok and Eastern Lakes states to work together to improve security across the borders and ensure stolen cattle are returned to their rightful owners to discourage revenge attacks.
Gok state officials were not immediately available to comment on the issue.
