At least four people have been killed and three others injured in fatal revenge clashes between the Cie-Pual and Cie-Khertut sections of Cie-Dumin in Lankien, the headquarters of Nyirol County.
Jonglei State Minister of Information Nyamar Lony Thichot Ngundeng reported that the violence stemmed from a previous conflict on 29 August 2024 when a member of Cie-Dumin killed someone from Cie-Pual. Following the latest outbreak of violence, Nyirol County Commissioner James Bol Makuey organized meetings between the two subsections to promote dialogue and de-escalation.
“The commissioner called both communities together, and they agreed to work towards calming the situation,” Lony stated, adding that the injured are currently receiving medical treatment at the MSF hospital in Lankien.
The Jonglei State Government has condemned the cycle of revenge killings, urging communities in Nyirol County and across the state to embrace peace.
“We call upon the people of Jonglei State to put an end to these acts of violence and to prioritize stability and coexistence,” Minister Lony added.
She said the state government reaffirmed its commitment to fostering peace among the region’s communities, calling on all residents to join in this crucial effort.
