At least four people have been killed and 32 others wounded when unknown assailants detonated a hand grenade in Torit town in South Sudan’s Eastern Equatoria State over the weekend.
German Charles, Torit County commissioner, told Radio Tamazuj that criminals detonated a grenade into a crowd of youth at a house party on Saturday.
“One of the people who don’t want people, love and unity among the youths threw a grenade into a group of youths in a party. The party was being organized by youth boys and girls from different tribes,” he said.
He said the incident resulted into the killing of two boys and other two girls. He added about 32 others were wounded, six sustained minor injuries.
Some of the wounded were taken to Juba Teaching Hospital, while others are still receiving treatment in the Torit Hospital. The county official said the incident stirred up fear among citizens.
He pointed out that police authorities are still looking for the perpetrators. The commissioner hoped that such an incident shouldn’t repeat itself in the area.
