At least four chiefs were shot dead and three others wounded over the weekend when their vehicle fell into an ambush in Poktap area in Duk Payuel County in South Sudan’s Jonglei state, a local official said.
Twic Centre County Commissioner Dau Akoi Kurkuch told Radio Tamazuj on Monday that traditional leaders of Pajut area were attacked by unknown gunmen along the Panyagor-Poktap road on Saturday.
He pointed out that the incident resulted in the killing of at least four chiefs and wounding of three others, saying the traditional leaders went to Bor town to meet the state minister of local government and law enforcement agency.
The local official accused a group of Murle tribesmen of involvement in the attack.
